Viruses, viruses, viruses! We all know they are out there. Sometimes they compromise your human health, and other times they can destroy your PC’s existence. When you begin to get an inkling that you may have a virus on your hands, it is important to understand it and remove it quickly and safely – before it becomes a larger problem that requires professional assistance to remove entirely. So, how can you protect your PC from malware? Let’s talk about it!
Resist Click-Bait
We know this can be difficult, because as the name “click-bait” suggests – these advertisements are designed as bait to lure you into clicking them. Not all click-bait is riddled with malware that is going to destroy your PC – but many (more than you probably think) are carrying viruses your machine could easily pick up. Did a prompt appear asking if you trust the source of a download? If you do not 100% know and trust the source (look out for copycat branding) – do not click on it! If you do not recognize the source of any link, photo or advertisement then, again, do not click on it! If you do a not of web surfing and research, be sure to keep a close eye on your URLs. For example, if you are doing research and access a government website, it should have a “.gov” at the end of its URL – if it doesn’t, it could be a malware trap.
Install Effective Virus Software
Your need an effective security system installed on your PC to keep it protected from dangerous viruses. Microsoft Security Essentials, Avast! and other free software can help you identify the website that is causing you virus trouble. Do your research and make an educated decision on which free security software you choose to download. BEWARE – It is highly common for viruses to present click-bait disguising themselves as “virus protection.” It’s a good idea to download Malwarebytes and run regular scans on your machine to ensure no viruses slip through the cracks.
