3 Malware Threats You Need To Be Aware Of
Most of us live either all day or most of our day connected to the internet, which is what makes protecting your devices and data from malware so important. If you are not exactly a tech geek, and aren’t even quite sure what malware consists of, do not worry. At Working Nets, we can help. Malware is malicious software which can be introduced to your computer in the form of a worm, virus, logic bomb, Trojan horse, rootkit, or spyware. Here are 3 malware threats you should know about.
The FBI Virus (aka FBI Moneypack scam)
This aggressive malware presents itself as a fake official FBI alert. It claims that your computer is blocked due to Copyright and Related Rights Law violation. This virus locks down your system and tries to trick you into paying scammers $200 to unlock your PC. It can actually be removed using step by step instructions. Do not pay the scammers or hackers under any circumstances.
The Firefox Redirect Virus
Watch out for this malicious malware if you use Firefox. It redirects your Firefox browser to unwanted sites and tries to change your browser settings to trick you into loading malicious websites by altering search engine results.
Sirefef (aka ZeroAccess)
This virus uses stealth to hide its presence in your system as it disables your security features and antivirus software, such as Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. You can become infected with it when downloading pirated software or programs that promote piracy, such as cracks and keygens. It sends your personal, private, and sensitive information to remote hosts for their own purposes.
