Though, to be fair, it’s probably not Kindle’s fault. Recently, Windows 10 underwent an update called the Windows 10 Anniversary update. Those who have updated are reporting problems when they plug in their Kindle to charge or to transfer books. The issue appears to be widespread. Is it affecting you? There may be a few ways to work around it.
What’s Happening?
If you’re affected by this issue, your version of Windows 10 will crash and show a blue screen of death when you plug in your Kindle. So far, it appears to only be affecting Amazon’s Paperwhite and Voyage tablet models. If you have any other type of digital book device, this probably doesn’t concern you at all. Likewise, Mac users won’t see a difference in connection. The problem is causing Windows to crash when these Amazon brand tablets are plugged into the USB port.
Can I Fix it?
Not yet. There isn’t an official solution to this problem. Microsoft is aware of the issue, and it is of high priority. The newest Windows 10 update provided notification upgrades and interface simplifications. It has been widely praised, aside from a few minor issues. Some, though, are going to consider this Kindle crash a huge problem; for many, Kindles are ways to preserve and transfer PDFs needed for work and school.
Makeshift solutions are circling as rumors, but they don’t seem to be working for everyone. Some suggest plugging in the Kindle before your computer turns on. Others are saying to reboot Windows with Kindle still plugged in to be able to connect the two devices. Assuredly, Windows is working quickly to resolve the crashes. In the meantime, you may need to work with your important files and books directly from your computer, and charge your Kindle with a wall charger.
