Whether you already updated your computer to Windows 10 and are regretting your decision or you have been putting off the installation for almost a year and half, Windows 10 gets an unfair bad reputation amongst Windows users. As of now, Windows 10 is running on less than half the number of Microsoft PCs that are running Windows 7, and the usage rate is not increasing much from month to month. Why should you upgrade your computer to Windows 10 and what’s all the fuss about?
What’s Changed in Windows 10
Windows 10, like most major operating system upgrades, has a lot of changes from earlier versions of Windows released by Microsoft. Windows 10 is much faster to use and boasts a faster start up time and shut down time. It is much more stable than previous versions of Windows, so every time an app freezes and needs to shut down, your computer won’t be in for the same ordeal. Some users haven’t experienced a single blue screen or any lost work in months and months of heavy use, which bodes well for all Microsoft PC users.
Windows 10 includes a new and improved feature called Snap. Snap allows the user to have multiple applications visible at the same time, so that you can easily use many different things at once to get your work done (or watch the game while finishing your homework). Something similar to Snap was available in Windows 7, but it did not work as consistently or reliably as the Windows 10 version.
So, What Are the Downsides?
While there are many upsides to upgrading to Windows 10, it isn’t without its faults and issues. One of the primary concerns users have about Windows 10 is the amount of data it collects and sends to Microsoft while you are using the computer. You can adjust your settings to allow less data transmission, but those less computer savvy might not be able to easily do so without help. The new system browser, Edge, is still full of bugs and lags that should (hopefully) be resolved with a few Microsoft updates. Onto the updates—they can be a huge headache for some Windows 10 users. Microsoft forces updates on users and doesn’t allow you to opt out of them or put them off for another time. Some updates can take hours to install, and those are valuable hours you can’t be using your computer. Windows 10, unfortunately, does not care whether you are in the middle of a huge project or at a convenient time for installing updates.
