Due to the outbreak of the WannaCry crypto-ransomware malware, we wanted to make a few recommendations to help keep your environment safe.

  1. If you are a managed client, we have made sure that your Windows computers are as current with their patches, as possible. This includes ensuring that the patches specifically exploited by this particular piece of malware have been installed. If you are in this group and your computer’s Windows Update service is asking that you reboot your computer, please be sure that you do.
  2. If you are not in this group. We urge you to touch each of your PCs and make sure they are all up-to-date on at least all Critical and Important patches. Due to the severity of this issue, Microsoft has even made patches available for Windows XP, which it officially no longer supports.
  3. Please make sure that you have adequate backup for your critical systems. This includes offline or secure Internet backups.
  4. Please make sure that your users are aware of the implications of opening questionable email attachments and clicking suspicious links.

If you need help, please don’t hesitate to call on us. And if you would like to discuss backup solutions and/or our managed services plans, we’d be happy to discuss a plan that would be appropriate for your company.
